I'm 11 and I've been babysitting since I was 9! I"m only allowed to sit for my parent's friends in the neighborhood, no more than two kids ages 2-7, and at a maximum of 3 hours. In my opinion, age doesnt matter! It's how responsible, reliable, and mature you are. My mom started babysitting when she was 10, and she was VERY mature. However, my aunt didn't babysit until she was 19, because she wasn't very mature when she was young.

Yeah, I think you are... You probably should wait to babysit until you're at least 12. But if you want to get some experience under your belt, I would suggest you try being a mothers helper. It's great because if something goes wrong, the parent is right there.

as about everyone said before...you are a bit too young to begin babysitting kids alone, it can get frustrating sometimes and as mature or responsible as you may be, your not experienced in handling children alone. so being a mothers helper is what you need to gain that much needed experience. i started out as a mothers helper when i was only 9, i continued that until i was 14 because i loved it! i also did some babysitting too when i was only 10 but i had that mothers heper experience so it was okay to sit for older kids, but i found that being a mothers helper was much less stressful. i am 16 now and i still sometimes help parents out with their babys and even kids up to 13/14 for homework reasons. so i understand its frustrating to be your age and want to babysit sooo badly but no one thinks you can! getting experience by being a mothers helper can help you strut your stuff and show them your good at what you do and can help them know in the near future when you are 13 you are fully capable of doing it by yourself, no worries! so pace yourself and dont get upset when people say no! thats immature!

I would say 10 is to young. At 10 your still in the child stage
yourself even though you are responsible and mature and smart. But I
don't leave my children with any one under the age of 18 only because
younger people (especially teenagers) do not know enough about
children to watch them they spend more time talking on the phone or
whatever then they do taking care of the kids. Just help your mom then and learn from it. That will teach you stuffs to be more responsible and reliable ![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)

I don't think that statement is quite fair since I know there are many teenagers who are very responsible babysitters. I'm 14, and I babysat five children (ages 1-10) for 7 hours. I didn't spend time talking on the phone; I took care of and entertained the kids.

Hi kidsRme. I apologize to have offended you. Yeah, not all teenagers
are irresponsible. I, too, have been taking care of my younger brothers
when I was just 10 yrs old. I say the above because of experience. I
have teen babysitters before who had been irresponsible that's why I
don't trust them much but that doesn't mean that all teens are the same.

Thank you, Loriemae. I wasn't offended, and I hope I didn't sound rude. I think I do understand what you mean about some teenagers.

I am 11 and I babysit. I've taken a Red Cross class and I'm certified. My mom just began to let me babysit, so I think 10 is not old enough...but yah.
