Baby sitting from home questions
Reply Quote

Hello,

My wife wants to quit her hectic job as a pre-school teacher and watch 1 or 2 children full time out of our home. We have had a lot of trouble finding legal information on how many children you can watch from your home and what type of legal measures we should put in place to protect us incase something happens. (like if the kid gets hurt playing)

Do you happen to know the laws on babysitting or a good place to find them by state? We live in Missouri if that helps?

Thank you,

Mark Williams

For licensing information, you're going to want to contact:

Missouri Department of Health
Bureau of Child Care Safety & Licensure
P.O. Box 570920
Wildwood, Jefferson County, MO 65102-0570
Phone: (573) 751-2450
Their website is http://www.health.state.mo.us/

Here are a few things I found that you may want to take a look at.  Keep in mind that there are a few different terms for what she intends to do.  It can be called "family daycare" or "home daycare," among other terms.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'RE LOOKING FOR: http://nrc.uchsc.edu/STATES/MO/mo_familyTOC.htm
On discipline: http://www.stophitting.com/laws/stateLegislation.php
Family Care Safety Registry: http://www.dhss.mo.gov/FCSR/

And you know what, as a former pre-school teacher myself, I don't blame her!  While I LOVED my class, private childcare has allowed me to be paid more per child, choose my own schedule and benefits, and be selective as to who is under my care.  I'm also allowed more one-on-one with each child, and years with them (instead of waving good-bye as they graduate out of pre-school), which has been an incredible blessing.  Kudos to her for knowing what she wants and doing what it takes to achieve it.  Best of luck to you and her!

Thank you so much for the information!

We are both excited to have her work from home, and she is going to be much happier and less stressed out!

Thanks again,

Mark
