nanny or not nanny??.... that is the question
|
|
|
|
|
i was wondering if you could help me.
i can't seem to figure out whether i am a nanny to the girl i "babysit"
her mom is a nurse so her shedual is alway changing. but i
usually am there for anywhere from 3-6 times a week.
the times are always changing so i do any thing from making meals,
picking her up from school, dropping her to friends houses for
play date, swimming lessions, and dropping for friends birthday parties.
some weeks she doesn't need me at all.
is a nanny alway have to be regular?? i have a schedual (some time
about a month of 2 in advance) and some days i'm there 2 times a day
and have night shifts etc. (sleep over there) so some weeks it's like
6-7 "shifts" (use shifts becaause sometimes more than one time in
day)
so what do yuo think??

A part-time nanny works 15+ hours/week, almost every week. A full-time nanny works 40+ hours/week, almost every week.

what would you say night shifts are? i stay over from about 6 to 7 then next morning (but go to sleep.)
so it's hard to calculate. this week i have her at my
house mon. tues. pick her up after school comes to our
house. for a couple hours. then 2 night shifts. wed. thurs.
and maybe some more. i'm not sure yet.
so 4 days.
how would you calculate nights??
how many hours?

Those are overnight babysitting jobs. They're a little difficult to calculate rates on, because it's very factor-dependent.
- It was unclear...at your house or hers?
- If at hers, are you eating meals there? If at yours, are you preparing meals?
You should charge an additional $10/week for gas. Your rates after you put her to sleep go WAY down since you're "sleeping on the job." I'm talking $4-5/hour. Rates return to normal once she wakes up in the morning.

i think we might be talking about different things. how do you
calculate the hours when you are on a night shift. i was kind of
thinking until i would go to bed/go home usually. around 12 at
latest. for caluclating hours. to be nany. i know this
sounds wierd going after this so much. but i really would love to
know.
i'm getting $50 overnight. from 6:30-7:30 next morning. (and she goe to bed at 8pm)
i know 8 sounds kind of wierd but i wouldn't say 2 hours becasue
it really is more work and energy to do these. plus doing 2
or 3 a week plus non overnights is more of a nanny thing than a
babysitter thing.

No, you are paid during an overnight job, even while you are sleeping. You are just paid much less than when you are awake.

You're definately a nanny. I consider someone a nanny when the things they're doing consist of dropping kids off at lessons or school, and making meals.
Im about to start working for a fireman who works 24 hr shifts everyother day for 4 days then 3days off then every other day again...
im gonna have to be there at 5:30am and leave at 6:30 am the next day. I'll have to wake 6 year old twin boys and feed them breakfast lunch and dinner, and keep them entertained in between and get them int o bed. I'll also have to tidy up and play with them and take them to the park and stuff, so i'm gonna be a nanny definately also.
