have a question regarding rates but its not only about the money I need help desperately, I take care of 3 1/2 old twins boy and girl with development delay, when I first started this job a year ago I was told only to take care of kids , kids laundry, tiddy up kitchen, prepare kids meals dinner most of the time (I work M-F 2:30 till late night when they come back home usually 11:30 pm) I bathe put them to sleep and everything and I was not told about some issues! Surprise [:O]

just about some medications that the girl had to take but they were not sincere about the reasson of the medication. I drive them to therapies (language, physical,occupational and any other that they need, 4 of 5 days they need therapy) and I take them to the phycologist, swim class. according to their phycoligist there in a range of age of a 18 month baby thats how they behave, but do walk and talk, but always want to be carried around and there getting pretty heavy (40-43 pounds) and my back is paying the consequences. most of the time there crying with no reason and fall into a stage of histeria pretty bad (very difficult to calm down) and the girl is worse than the boy cause she is violent also, not even the parents can control her I feel afraid sometimes cause when I dont let her hit me she tries to hit the boy or hurt herself banging her head on the floor. In the past she had seizures and she is on medication and those medications give here mood swings. And in occasions they snap and go out of control while Im on the road driving somewhere they need to be taken, I did not know all this when I first came in and I taken special trainings because the therapist suggested that would help my job.Also I got to know from the therapist that no nanny last in that position for all the reasons I've mention and that its hard for them to find someone that is willing to do the job and that they dont like to pay a reasonable rate. Crying [:'(]

Wow, this family really misled you! I would definitely talk to the parents about this, but make sure it's not around the children. If the kids overhear you, they may take it to heart and feel that they aren't loved or they are bad children, etc.

When you talk to the parents, tell them that they told you that you only had to do certain things, but over time your responsibilities within the family grew and grew. If its a raise that you want, then tell them that you would like more money because you are doing beyond what was expected from you from day one.

Also, you need to think about if the situation is worth it. It sounds like the family is trying to "guilt" you into staying- saying that no nanny has ever stayed for the children because of their disabilities, etc. It sounds like they are trying to take advantage of you by saying the things they do and adding so many duties to your job without even a single thought of raising your pay. I'm sorry you have to deal with all of this, and I wish you the best of luck!

I've read it all and understand why you're having problems, but what I don't understand is what sort of advice you're looking for:

Do you want a raise?
Do you want to leave the job?
Did you just want our sympathy?
Do you want advice as to how to handle the children?

I'm glad to hear that you got some special needs training, and I hope the parents reimbursed you for whatever costs you incurred as a result. Speaking of pay, they should also be reimbursing you for your gas, and you should be getting higher-than-typical pay for the amount of stress that goes along with this job.

I'm very disappointed that the family misled you, in ohmy's words. And you need to tell them that next time you have an opportunity, whether that opportunity be when you leave their employment, or whether it be when they ask how you're doing with the kids.

So let us know what kinda advice you're looking for, out of (or other than) the 4 I listed above, and we'll do the best to assist you.
