How to get started?

First of all, I'm not sure if this would be in the right forum, so sorry if it's not :(

Anyway, I was just wondering how I would get started to be a legal child care provider.  I was planning on going to school full-time this semester, but have had to change last minute.  After much thought, I decided that instead of babysitting part-time, I would get licensed to be able to watch more than one child at my home (since more than one child is illegal, at least in CA.)

Is there any tips or advice anyone can give me?.. especially legal child care providers (how you got started, advantages and disadvantages, etc.)

I also know CPR and First Aid training for all ages (infants included) is one of the most important things, as well as getting licensed.  I'm just not sure where I would start or how to get there.  I have done some research, but most of the websites I found were extremely hard to understand and follow.  Any advice and/ or pointers would be much appreciated!  Thanks :)
