Nanny not knowing what to do...

Hi....

I'm a 45 year old, well educated woman that has been a nanny for the past 4 years.  Working for a wonderful family of 4.  Kids now are 9 and 7 and obviously don't need me as much as they used to.

My salary is $500/week (gas money included).  I also get room and board, a car, a cell phone.  I used to work an average of 50 hours a week and 2 days off,  when the kids were younger, but now that they're both in school for most of the day, my mornings are open.  So , now I'm working around 34hrs.

Now, I've been told that changes have to be made and a weekly flat rate will be in order.  I will still have a car, cell and room and board, but now they will be included as salary.   They are offering $320 for 40hrs, and one day off.  The kids have lots of after school activities and now that gas has gone UP, I spend almost $70 each week.

They're also saying that on evenings when I'm not expected to work, but they would need me to babysit, they would pay me $12/hr.

So I guess my question is the following:  Does this sound fair?  And I ask this because I have no idea!  I mean, after 4 years of being a loving nanny to the kids and someone who they can ABSOLUTELY trust with their lives.....

I just want them to be fair and I want to be fair as well.  So I would like to know what would be fair for me to ask for in this situation.  And any input that you guys can give me, will be GREATLY  appreciated!!

Thanks..................

Monica

Yes, actually, this is totally fair.  You have a lot included in your salary that you don't have to pay for that others do pay for out of their salaries.  So while you're being handed a check for a certain amount, they're actually paying you much more in other ways.  You don't have a car payment, car insurance, rent/mortagage, cell phone bill, Internet/cable/phone bill, utilities bill, or grocery bill.  Wow!  Honestly, if they were to give you $100/week, it would still be fair because of everything else you're getting.
