How much should I charge?

Babysitting Rates

How much should I charge?

PhillyGirl22 09-15-2007, 2:18 PM

I'm going to be babysitting for 3 children- a 6, 4, and 2 year old. I personally have never babysat before, but I have watched children for family friends a few times and have helped out in a nursery school so I do know a little about it.  I also know first aid. How much should I charge? (I live in Philadelphia and I know that rates seem to vary by location so keep that in mind).

  Thanks!

I suggest $8/hr. Also before you babysit again get CPR certified.

Thanks!

I used the calculator suggested on rates but it said $11.25 and I don't think I'd be comfortable asking for that much, atleast not at this time. Though the people I'm sitting for have never had a sitter before (only family members when they couldn't take the kids) so I think they're as unsure about how much I should get as I am.

Oh and I forgot to mention

a little while back my 2 best friends and I also watched 2 girls 3rd and 1st graders, with Severe Peanut Allergies at lunch. (We volunteered) So we were taught how to use an epipen and all that incase of emergencies. I forgot about it but now I'm glad I did- its one more thing I know about ^_^

The rate calculator always overestimates; You need to subtract at least $3/hr from the rate it gives you. Also, it's great that you know first aid and how to use an epipen, but it's also important to get CPR certified. Hope this helps and good luck!
