What do you bring with you on a babysitting job to entertain the child or for safety reasons?
I like to go to the dollar tree and pick up like 6 dollars of random
toys. Their toy section and craft area is so big! I get coloring books,
crayons, puzzles, bubbles, chalk, etc. Put everything in a bag and let
the kids pick something out to play with and then I let them keep it,
only a dollar. Great idea!

Sometimes I bring stuff from around my house (aka dig through boxes in basement): stickers, I-spy books, coloring/activity books, bubbles...Most of the time I don't bring anything though.

I bring a whole bunch of my favorite childrens books and small toys from home, and sometimes I will also run to the dollar store to pick up a new puzzle or coloring book. I also always bring a first aid kit, becasuse I've found alot of parents dont have a full first aid kit, or they have the contents, here there and eveywhere. Bringing my own assures me I have everything I need, however, doing that can become expensive, because they usually expire yearly. I also make sure that I take the kit out of my bag, and put it somewhere out of the reach of the children so they can't get into the medicine or play with the kit. I keep all of this in my old backpack, and the kids always want to see what I've brought in my babysitting bag!

I don't have a lot of stuff that I take with me. I'm, more often that not, headed to a baby-sitting job directly after class or directly after student teaching, so I have way too much to carry as is.
The thing that I ALWAYS have with me is a pack of stickers. To quote my father who has been teaching for 25 years, "Bribery gets you everywhere." Stickers make the world go 'round for the preschool and toddler set, if Junior needs a monkey sticker on his hand to make a transition go a little more smoothly, I'm all for it.
