Only two states have laws stating how old someone has to be to babysit. However most parents won't allow someone under 12 or 13 to babysit. HOWEVER, 10-11 are great ages to start as a mother's helper. A mother's helper watches children while the parents are home doing work or whatever else they might need to get done. Mother's helper are also paid though not as much as babysitters. I think the average rate for mother's helper is around $3-5 depending on where you live and how many kids there are. Another good idea to get you ahead of the game is to get CPR and First Aid certified. Hope this helps!

I still babysit some 10 and 11 year olds, but I would have no problem having someone your age come to my place to help me out why I get some in-house chores done.  I know that your age group is wonderful playing with pre-schoolers.
I would, however, recommend not working together.  It's very difficult to stay focused on the task at hand when you have a good friend with you, so split up and work for different families.
Advertise as a mother's helper, like babyd suggested, and I would charge about $3-4/hour.

I would say yes but you can do some other things. Like a mothers helper or if you have an older sister or cousin who babysits you can go with them and help out. It also helps if you know the kid so if you have cousins you can talk to your aunt about watching them for free a couple times. Hope that helps Big Smile [:D]

hi girls. i know you are very eager to prove yourself responsible, and I did start babysitting when i was 11 (well being a mothers helper).  but looking back on it i don't see why they would hire me.  i was responsible like I’m sure you are but some things you need to experience.  being a babysitter isn't just all the courses you took, but the  life experience that mold you as a babysitter.
responsibility is a major part but lots of it is picking up the tricks of the trade and learning what works or not.   Being a mothers helper is a great way to build clientele and let the parents see that you are a great babysitter.  I during the summer I babysat a 13 year old, and have babysat girls and boys your age  so you know I think it’s a little young to baby-sit but would be a great age to start out as a mothers helper.
Good luck

depends if you are responsible i guess. I am 13 and I babysit an 11 year old but i guess it is totally up to the parents. It also depends if the kids are well behaved and how old they are.

my mom lets me babysit and i am 11

Why do you doubt them?     ..... Does it really matter about the money .. I think they have very good chances of getting a job.

It's not about the money at all, but the maturity level and years of experience.  You may be an exception, but many 11-year-olds are still just learning how to care for themselves.  Many (though not all) 11-year-olds are just being allowed to walk home from school, use the stove, etc.  Right now, I babysit an 11-year-old and her two younger siblings.  The point is, if you're JUST being allowed to care for yourself, how could you possibly have the experience and maturity -- and clear-mindedness in an emergency -- to care for another yet?  That's the reasoning and rationale that many parents and older childcare providers have.

Honestly, and this is in no way meant to offend people in this age group, but I'd be concerned if any parent hired a 10-11 year old to look after their kids. I babysit a few kids your age, so I'm sure you can see where my concern is. If there was some sort of an emergency, I'd just be worried that you'd be able to handle it yourself let alone handle it and still manage the kids you're watching.

you have a point,

but i am certificated in babysitting, and well in cpr..

I took online classes and other classes.

Ive read books, and one time my mom was going to watch her friends kids, but my mom had to go back to collage and had alot of homework to do...

I watch them, changed there diapers, got them drinks, and cared them for 4 hours! does this count?

I was baby-sitting at 11 as well, but it wasn't the same kind of sitting that I do now.

When I was 11, I would watch kids in the neighborhood for an hour or so while the parents ran quick errands around town or even if they just needed to get stuff done around the house. i basically just played with them. They were all neighbors and family so I always had MY parents near by, as well as the kids' parents and emergency contacts.

If I were a parent I wouldn't hire an 11 year old for evening hours or a full day, but I might hire an 11 year old to lend a hand. Those kinds of jobs are how you gain experiance and work your way up to being a stellar baby-sitter in a few years.

Everyone has to start somewhere, good luck!

sorry girls but I don't think you should babysit at your age ...Me and my friends who babysit are just now get to babysit for    people besides family and we are 13 -14 years old.

Try mother helpers or just focus on school
