Now that gas prices are increasing and people aren't going out as much, as your job opportunities decreased?

YES!
I have a childcare agency now, and was under the impression that the amount of jobs available increased during the summer, with school being out and all.
Instead, I'm struggling to ensure that the sitters have enough hours each week! I do think that gas prices have played a major role in this. It's right at $4/gallon here in Tallahassee, and my family in South Florida tells me it's $4.30/gallon for them!

In the past, summer have definitely been the busy season. Now that gas is cutting into everyone budget, I wonder what most people do for alternative activities.
I wish there was a real resolution to the gas price problem that isn't a fake solution or some sort of dance around the main issue.

I don't know about where you all live, but here a lot of babysitters have started raising their rates and/or charging for gas if they travel far to get to the families homes. For example, I have one family that it takes me 40 minutes to get to their house each way, and with the price of gas, it is expensive. They understand it is not worth the money for me to go down there and babysit for 2 hours. So we have an understanding that if my time is less then three hours, they throw in $5 for gas. if its over 3 hours- no problem! So I think this bump in rates may have decreased parents desire to hire babysitters as well.
So not only do I think that the parents are not going out as much, I think they are more reluctant to pay the high prices that the babysitters are charging as a result of the spike in prices.
