Hey Devyn,

Mom and dad should give you ideas, or even leave something pre-made for you.  If they leave it up to you, make sure that whatever you feed the children is acceptable.  Many parents are very strict with what their children can and cannot eat.

Involving the children in making lunch is educational and a lot of fun.  Be silly with it.  When you make a meat and cheese sandwich, draw a happy face with the squeeze mustard when you're making it.  If you need to boil water or use a sharp knife, use this opportunity to remind the child how important it is to be safe when preparing food.

Think of it this way -- if you were a mom, what would you like to see your child eat?

Have an sliced apple as side for their lunch, and sprinkle some cinnamon on it.  Dip carrots in ranch dressing.  If the family has a lot of fruit, make a fruit salad.  (Cut up an apple, orange, and banana and mix it in a bowl.)  Make grilled cheese with tomato soup to dip the sandwich in.

Also be aware of the child's eating capabilities.  Obviously, serving hot soup to a toddler isn't a good idea.

Most of the parents I work for give me a good idea of what they want their darlings to eat. If they don't, I just make sure the bases are covered, dairy, carbs, protein, veggies/fruit. I try to encourage healthy eating without being too pushy about it.

Well, ask the parents what kind of stuff their kids like to eat.  If you forget to ask, then ask the kids.  Most kids i've watched have amazed me.  They'd go to the friedge, open it up, and pull out just what they wanted.  If they're good enough, they won't pull out ice cream!  lol

Most kids like fruit and vegetables.  You hear so many stories of kids refusing to eat their vegetables, but it's because their parents set broccoli, brussel sprouts, or peas in front of them.  And if I were a little kid, I wouldn't touch the stuff either!!  Be creative though!  And remember, not all kids like the same stuff you liked when you were a kid.  You may have liked raisins, but maybe they don't.
